Did you know that King Henry VIII declared Valentine's day, the 14th of February, an official holiday as early as 1537? That's one of the reasons many of the customs and beliefs regarding this date come from England. For example the habit of sending a love confession to someone on this very day - even anymously. They even believed that February 14th was the day when birds also found their mate.
